Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is Finland's busiest international airport. RTK-Palvelu Oy, a Finnish facility services company with over 50 years of experience, is responsible for cleaning the non-Schengen zone — an area used day and night by passengers, staff and handlers.

The combination of large floor areas, high passenger throughput and strict hygiene requirements after the pandemic created growing pressure on the cleaning team. Manual scrubbing of 13,000 m² required over 5 hours per shift — a time and staffing investment that was becoming increasingly unsustainable.

    An airport never stands still. The non-Schengen zone is used continuously, meaning cleaning must always take place alongside passengers, luggage and ground staff.

In May 2021, RTK-Palvelu Oy deployed a Gausium Scrubber 75 via Finnish partner CleanBots at Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. The robot cleans the entire non-Schengen zone for 5 to 6 hours daily — autonomously, consistently and without continuous supervision. The results exceeded all expectations: what previously took more than 5 hours is now done in 30 minutes.
